Blackheads, acne and pimples are common and most often occur during puberty due to hormonal fluctuations. Adults however are also often affected. There are different forms of these common skin diseases, from scarred blemished skin and pimples to purulent inflammation.
Antibiotics, vitamin A supplements and hormone supplements are often used to treat acne. All these forms of treatment are strongly augmented with argan oil, and it also often used successfully on its own.
Man unterscheidet mehrere Formen der Akne:
Severe acne must be treated medically, preferably with the guidance of a dermatologist, to prevent purulent inflammation and scarring.
The skin consists of many skin pores: small depressions with fine hairs in the middle, at the roots of which lie glands - the so called ‘hair follicles’. These produce sebum, which is released onto the skin surface. It forms an oily film that protects the skin from drying out against harmful substances.
The male hormone testosterone is responsible for acne vulgaris, the most comon form of acne/ This happens when the body produces too much sebum and stimulates the sebaceous glands to grow. The sebum mixes with flakes of skin that have died, on the skin surface and clogs the pores of the sebum gland. Consequently, white and black nodules - blackheads - protrude from the surface of the skin.
The acne bacterium (propionibacterium acnes), a resident bacteria common to all skin types, loves this mixture of sebum and old skin flakes, and considers it an ideal breeding ground. It causes purulent inflammation in the sebum, visible as a purulent pimple. With a so-called acne conglobata, purulent nodules can also form and permanent scars develop after healing.
The other resident bacteria on the human skin use enzymes to break down this excess sebum and thus provide ideal conditions for the further perpetuation of acne bacteria. According to a Göttingen study , these also invade skin cells, which subsequently die and thus lead to permanent recesses and increased scar tissue during wound healing.
Acne rosacea usually only occurs after the age of 40 and runs in three different phases. The blood vessels dilate and colour the surrounding skin reddish. Later there are small pustules, then purulent nodules and finally a thickening of connective tissue. The underlying causes have not yet been fully clarified, but it is believed that chemical substances, alcohol, nicotine and stress all play significant roles.
For the treatment of acne, specialists use antibiotics that reduce sebum production and kill acne bacteria. Cornification is removed with vitamin A acid, and sebum production is reduced.
This treatment, is however, contraindicated during pregnancy, due to potential foetal deformities and other potential side-effects. In adult women, medical specialists in some cases also prescribe birth control pills, the ingredients of which - estrogen and progesterone - inhibit testosterone, and thus reduce acne. Obviously, this treatment inapplicable to men.
Intensive lotions are often recommended for skin care for acne, which does kill all the germs, but dries the skin even more and destroys the natural lipid - fat - coating of the skin. As a result, sebum production paradoxically continues to increase. Fine cracks appear on the surface of the skin, through which new resident bacteria can again penetrate. Unfortunately the skin becomes even more susceptible to new germs.
All types of treatment for all forms of acne can be augmented very strongly with argan oil. The oil is not comedogenic: it does not clog the pores and does not cause new blackheads. Argan oil slows down excess sebum production and regulates the skin's moisture balance. It has an antimicrobial effect and relieves inflammation, stimulates cell growth and regenerates damaged skin cells. It also supports wound healing and helps prevent scarring.
Oral argan oil (2-3 tablespoons daily) can be very useful in all acne forms, as argan oil balances the hormonal homeostasis and the digestive system. Argan oil can also be mixed well with Jojoba wax which also has beneficial effects on all forms of acne. It also extends the shelf life of argan oil.
Daily skin care is very important for acne patients. Often, it is beneficial to replace Intensive skin cleaners and exfoliants with mild products that do not contain any chemical preservatives and perfumes. Gently cleanse your facial skin without rubbing and scrubbing.
Use sterile wound compresses or soft cotton balls for cleaning. Immersing these in chamomile tea strengthens the effect, and can be used to gently dab the skin. Dry the skin gently and then spread the argan oil onto your face with your fingertips and massage it into the skin in circular motions. The skin is then well cared for, does not become tense and does not feel oily. Use only 100% pure, virgin argan oil!
In cases of acne, intensive cleansing is very important. The paradox of treating oily skin with more oil may sound perplexing, but it is massively beneficial! (see above - essential oils are not actually comprised of oils) Argon is strongly recommended regardless! After 10 to 14 days, the skin reacts to the new argan oil treatment, the sebum production rapidly normalizes and the skin calms down.
In few cases, the skin initially reacts with a brief worsening - itching or reddening of the skin can result when stopping to use serious detergents. After a week or two, this reaction subsides. Taking argan oil orally at the same time may improve the appearance of the skin faster, since the oil balances hormonal fluctuations.
If you suffer from severe acne with nodules, you should see a specialist to avoid permanent scaring. Scars can occur when cells are damaged during wound healing and there is a loss of tissue, mostly visible as deeper troughs. However, higher-lying ridges can also arise, which are created by inferior skin tissues with a different structure to normal skin, formed during wound healing.
In order to avoid the formation of permanent scars, the skin should be cared for in advance, by keeping it soft and elastic during existing acne conditions. The best is a mild cleansing and a gentle massage with argan oil. This promotes blood circulation, keeps the wound edges soft and prevents the skin from drying out.
If scars have already developed after an acne disease, they can be alleviated, with the daily use of argan oil. Depending on the severity, a specialist can produce greater effects with a peeling cure or by grinding the top scar layer.
In many cases, skin redness or dark spots remain after acne, which do disappear after a few years. However, you can shorten the period if you treat the skin with argan oil for a few minutes every day. The increased blood circulation always accelerates healing and the substances contained promote collagen formation and skin regeneration. Pamper your skin additionally 2 - 3 times a week for half an hour with a mask of 1 tsp argan oil, 1 tsp almond oil, 1 tsp jojoba oil and 1 tsp healing earth, which can be simply rinsed off with warm water.
